Soft Tissue Surgery FAQs

  • What happens during the consultation appointment?

During a consultation before the operation, we will go over your pet's medical history with you and perform a physical exam, blood work, and any other appropriate tests to assess your pet's condition.

Diagnostic testing can include CT scans, ultrasounds, radiographs (like x-rays), and biopsies, Once we've received results, we will create and discuss a surgery plan with you.

  • Do the consultation appointment and surgery happen on the same day?

No. Our consultation is before the surgery and is considered a pre-operative exam. We will schedule your appointment only once all of our diagnostic tests have come back from our lab.

  • How long does surgery take?

Usually between two and four hours. The duration of surgeries depends on the specific surgery which is being performed and on the nature of your pet's condition.

  • Does my pet have to stay overnight?

Often, our patients will have to stay overnight for monitoring after a surgery has been completed. Depending on the kind of surgery and how quickly your pet recovers from their anesthesia, you may be able to have your companion home the same day.
